Grant Description

The former capital of a pre-Hispanic empire that covered most of the southern Andes, the ancient city of Tiwanaku remains spiritually important to Bolivias Aymara community while also attracting national and international tourists.

This project involves the conservation of stone sculptures, development of new conservation practices to mitigate stone loss, training for local maintenance workers, and the digitization of the site.
