Grant Description

To support the preservation of an early 18th-century former slave warehouse, now the principal repository for the National Archaeology Museum in Benguela.

A major port in the sub-Saharan slave trade, Benguela and its built environment endure as reminders of a sobering chapter in Angolan history.

This project involves critical repairs to the building to ensure a safe and appropriate environment for the museums collections.
