Grant Description

To preserve 50 mosaics rescued from the 5th-10th century Forgotten Cities of Northern Syria. The mosaics were found, in situ, in churches, palaces, bath houses and coffee shops.

The region of nearly 100 Forgotten Cities is under considerable development pressure and old structures are quarried by locals for building material.

The project will professionally remove and preserve the mosaics and provide an education component for the local community.
