Grant Description

In 2007, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) agreed to provide an RMB 40 million grant to the North Korean Government for the provision of spare parts to support the operations and maintenance (O&M) of the Pyongyang Metro and the 1600MW Pukchang Coal-Fired Power Plant. China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corp.

Ltd. (COMPLANT or 中成进出口股份有限公司) was the contractor responsible for implementation.

AidData assumes that this project was completed since a follow-on project was approved in 2008 (as captured via Record ID#73835). However, precise project implementation start and end dates are unknown.

The Pyongyang Metro was the first modern urban rail project built with Chinese aid. It was completed in 1975.
