In 2018, the Chinese Government provided a grant to the Government of Burundi for the Access to Satellite Television for 10,000 African Villages Project. The monetary value of this grant is unknown.
The project involved the provision of digital television sets, projectors, and receiving terminals (decoders) to 300 villages in Burundi. Each village received 20 decoders and three solar television kits. StarTimes was the contractor responsible for project implementation.
A project commencement ceremony took place on March 12, 2018, and the project was officially completed and handed over to the authorities on March 1, 2019.
