Grant Description

On 14 November, 2005, the Minister of the State Administration for Environmental Protection (Ministry of Science, Technology, and Industry for National Defense) of the People's Republic of China, Xie Zhenhua, and the acting head of the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Fernando González Bermudez, signed a Memorandum of Understanding that establishes environmental cooperation initiatives, with the goal of strengthening environmental cooperation between the countries..

In the MOU, the Cuban and Chinese governments agreed to exchange information and documentation, arrange mutual visits by experts, scholars and delegations, and hold scientific seminars and training of personnel events. It is unclear, however, if and when these events materialized.

The agreement signed at the CITMA headquarters includes benefits to the marine ecological system, the conservation of biodiversity, the improvement of regulations on environmental protection, and the promotion of environmental education.
