Grant Description

From March 25-26, 2015, Cuban Government officials attended a training course at the Shanghai Administration Institute.

There were a total of 25 Cuban students in this training class- consisting of 2 deputy ministerial level, and 23 departmental and divisional senior and intermediate civil servants and corporate executives.

The representatives came from the Cuban Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the Ministry of Finance and Price, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, and the Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces.

Relevant fields include: finance, electronics industry, food processing, tobacco, biology and medicine.

The purpose of this seminar is to understand China’s development experience since reforming, particularly in regards to their accumulated experience on the road of economic reform.

Professor Wang Zhiping, director of the Economics Teaching and Research Department, gave lectures on the experiences and inspiration of Shanghai's reform and opening up.

During the training period, the trainees conducted on-site teaching in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone in order to learn about the main achievements and experiences of the free trade zone construction.

The trainees also visited the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank and listened to special lectures to understand the reform context and competition of the Chinese banking industry.

They also visited the Shanghai Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. and listened to presentations there in order to better understand the role of joint ventures in China's reform process as well as corporate operating models and management mechanisms..
