In 2018, letters of exchange were signed by the Chinese Government and the Government of Nepal(the National Reconstruction Agency) for the Nuwakot Palace Reconstruction Project.
The purpose of the project is to repair the walls of the historic seven-story Sat Tale Durbar palace, which was damaged during the 2015 earthquake. The project will also replace decayed and weakening supporting struts with new ones. The Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage is involved in the reconstruction of the palace.
Reconstruction efforts began in March 2019.
However, construction was paused in July 2019 and then further delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic since February 2020.
