Grant Description

In October 2007, the Chinese Government and the Government of Lesotho signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which provided LSL 20 million of grant funding for unspecified school construction activities in a rural part of Lesotho.

This grant was likely utilized by the Government of Lesotho to partially finance the LSL 110 million China-Lesotho Friendship Middle School Construction Project (see #55754) because its project description shows a funding gap and there is sparse reporting on the Chinese Government funding the construction of any other schools in Lesotho around the time of ETCA signing.

However, AidData has not yet identified clear evidence that the proceeds from this ETCA were used to finance the China-Lesotho Friendship Middle School (later renamed Lesotho-China Fellowship Collegiate). This issue requires further investigation.
