Grant Description

On August 22, 2014, China agreed to allocate US$25,539,000 to the Uzbekistan Ministry of Public Education for the provision of multimedia equipment for 1st to 4th grade classrooms. The donation money was utilized in two phases.

During the first phase, 6,642 sets of equipment were purchased for $11,489,000, while 8,123 sets were purchased during phase two for $14,050,000.

These sets of equipment were comprised of: 1 computer, 2 speakers, 1 optical mouse, 1 video projector, 1 interactive whiteboard, 1 TV tuner for computer equipment The classroom upgrades seek to improve teacher proficiency in foreign language instruction in classrooms across the republic. The acquisition was part of a push by Uzbekistan to attract grant aid for its education system.

It was reported that Uzbekistan attracted $225.6 million of grant aid for this purpose, some of which was provided by the People's Republic of China.
