In April 2016, the Chinese Government pledged to provide a batch of emergency medical supplies to Venezuela to help it fight the Zika epidemic.
Then, on May 28, 2016, the Chinese Government donated 96 tons of medicine to Venezuela to help it address the Zika virus and the Guillain-Barré syndrome, a complication of the Zika virus. The batch included 186,000 units of intravenous fluids and 11,500 vials of immunoglobulin G.
'China vende medicinas a Venezuela para combatir el zika' claims that these medicines were not donated, but sold. However, sources from China and Venezuela ('中国政府向委内瑞拉政府提供寨卡疫情紧急人道主义医疗用品援助'; 'Venezuela receives medicine from China for Zika'; and 'China dona medicinas para ayudar a Venezuela') indicate that this was a donation.
