Grant Description

On December 3, 2019, during a visit of El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele to China, the leaders of both countries signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement.

Under this ETCA, China will provide El Salvador with $500 million in "non-reimbursable cooperation" for several large projects throughout the country. The Legislative Assembly of El Salvador ratified this agreement on May 19, 2021.

The individual projects are as follows: #71122: New national stadium #71185: New national library, worth $54 million #71186: Water treatment plant at Lake Ilopango #71187: Development of Surf City, including water distribution systems, roads, and parks #89653: Restoration and expansion of the pier at the Port of La Libertad #89654: Restoration of Joya de Cerén archaeological site Most of the individual transaction amounts for these projects are unknown or unverified by an official source.
