Grant Description
On December 11th, 2019 the Embassy of China held a free brunch donation ceremony at Mcedo-Beijing Elementary School to provide 526 students with breakfast and lunch fees for one semester. The total value of the donation is equal to 737,800 Kenyan shillings. The project was implemented with the help of the "International Free Lunch Project" ( 国际免费午餐项目).
It is hoped that the supplies will help alleviate the effects of poverty and bolster school attendance.
In attendance were the school students and staff, Guo Ce, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, and Li Changgui, President of the Kenya-China Economic and Trade Association. Mcedo-Beijing School, located in the Makere Slum, was set up in 2007 with the financial support of the Chinese Embassy.
Chinese firms have also provided donations to the school in the past including food aid, school uniforms, and educational materials.
The donation accompanied another donation on the same day from the Kenya-China Economic Trade Association captured in Record ID#70256.
