Grant Description

In December 2009, the Chinese government agreed to grant 22 million kina to Papua New Guinea for the Mt. Hagen Rice Project. The project is intended to promote dry rice research and farming in the Western Highlands region. The project is meant for college students and the local farmers from the Highlands region.

All the trainings are conducted in the Mt Hagen Agriculture College (PUBLIC INVESTMENT PROGRAM 2013 - 2017).

According to the initial 2009 budget document, the initial K22 million grant would be disbursed in five phases as follows: K4 million in 2009, K8 million in 2010, K4 million in 2011, K4 million in 2012, and K2 million in 2013. However, the actual disbursement amounts are captured in five sub-projects from 2009-2018.

The first phase was conducted in Decmber 2009.
