On September 24, 2018, the Chinese Embassy to Namibia, the Namibian First Lady Foundation, and the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) co-organized a launch ceremony for the Panda Pack or Love Pack (爱心包裹) project at a primary school in Kathutu district, Windhoek. CPFA came up with this project during a visit to Namibia in April 2018.
This project should benefit 14 primary schools in 6 Namibian provinces for a total of 10,000 students with new backpacks and school supplies. This project is tied to the Belt and Road initiative as the CFPA only donated to Belt and Road countries.
The event was said to be co-organized by the China Nuclear Construction Subsidiary China Nuclear Corporation 23 Namibia Hushan Uranium Project Department, according to China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. (CNNC). On September 25th, 2019, there was another handover ceremony for 40,0000 bags containing 105 stationary items.
The ceremony was held at Tobias Hainyenko Primary School in Windhoek.
The following are the sub-projects recorded so far: 23/10/2018 two unnamed schools in Erongo Province (#67799) 26/10/2018 351 students from Eluwa Special School (#67800) 29/10/2018 three unnamed schools in Kunene Province (#62620) 31/10/2018 two unnamed schools in Oshana Province (#67802) 31/10/2019 25 unnamed schools in the Hardap Province (#86834) 22/11/2019 two schools in Oshikoto Province, one unnamed, one Ombandu Comprehensive School (#86668) 22/11/2019 two schools in the Ohangwena Province (#86832) 21/01/2020 Monte Christo Project Primary School (#93530)
Unclear whether CFPA is actually an NGO or how involved the Chinese Embassy is, so flow class subject to change for this and all sub-projectsThe start date is also unclear since the Embassy source says this event marks the first donation whereas the CFPA press release seems to indicate this was not the first donation made under the program. Could be mistranslated so it should be double-checkedThe project may also be referred to as '爱心包裹项目'.
