Grant Description

On January 15, 2014, the Chinese Government and the Government of Georgia signed a cooperation agreement related to the Vegetable Production Technical Cooperation Project. China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) committed RMB 20 million in grant funding for this project.

The purpose of this project was to train Georgian farmers and agricultural technicians on the use of greenhouse technologies to promote vegetable production, improving their income and the overall economic welfare of Georgia.

The trainings were held on a 5 hectare plot of land at the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia in Marneuli district (municipality) within the Kvemo Kartli region, where the Chinese Government had previously funded the construction of 6 large and 27 small greenhouses (captured by linked Record ID#67083).

Hunan Agriculture Group Co., Ltd. was the contractor responsible for project implementation.

The project commenced in April 2015 and it was officially completed and handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia at the end of 2017.

Hunan Agriculture Group Co., Ltd. had organized at least 6 educational courses in China for 300 Georgian farmers as of early 2017.

Over the project's lifecycle, a total of 458 Georgian agricultural technicians and farmers were trained for free on the use of advanced solar greenhouse technologies, including 50 who went to Changsha in the Hunan Province of China for more in-depth training.

📋 Staff Comments

The name of the coordinator of the Vegetable Production Technical Cooperation Project was San Hou (see 'China-Georgia greenhouse project stimulates vegetable production in Marneuli').It is not clear if the cooperation agreement signed in January 2014 committed funding for this project. it appears likely, but it is not confirmed. To handle this ambiguity, AidData has elected to code 2014 as the commitment year while checking the 'Year uncertain' box.
