.Sierra Leone Compact - Energy Sector Project - EGTC Capacity Building Activity: The EGTC Capacity Building Activity aims to assist EGTC in its transition to a transmission-focused role, moving away from power generation, which will be primarily handled by independent power producers (IPPs).

This activity will enhance EGTCs environmental, health, and safety capacity through two sub-activities..The Transmission Operations Sub-Activity supports EGTCs expansion of its transmission network beyond the current Bumbuna-to-Freetown 161 kV line.

As new generation primarily comes from IPPs, EGTCs role as system operator, market operator, and transmission network operator will become more critical.

This sub-activity will provide technical assistance, including embedding a transmission expert within EGTC to assist in restructuring and transitioning to these new responsibilities.

It will also fund training for EGTC staff in areas like operations planning, system operation and maintenance, grid code compliance, security, demand-supply balance, interconnection management with the CLSG, merit order dispatch, and information exchange with the West African Power Pool (WAPP) and other regional utilities..The EGTC Environment and Health & Safety Sub-Activity will fund technical assistance to develop policies and practices for environmental management, resettlement, and health and safety within EGTC.

This will ensure that EGTC is equipped to manage the environmental and safety challenges associated with its expanded transmission responsibilities..These activities will strengthen EGTCs capacity to manage and expand Sierra Leones electricity transmission network while ensuring it meets regional standards for operations, environmental management, and safety.
