Grant Description
In 2013, China’s Ministry of Commerce and the Government of Ghana signed an RMB 42.4 million grant agreement for the New Century Career Training Institute Expansion Project.
This project involved an expansion of a vocational college teaching building (that can accommodate 500 students) and a primary and secondary school teaching building (that can accommodate 750 people in 18 classrooms), with a total construction area of 4,500 square meters. It also involved the provision of student desks and chairs, office furniture, and a school bus.
The New Century Career Training Institute, which was originally constructed with funding from the Chinese Government in 2000 (see Record ID#1734), is located in Dansoman District within the capital city of Accra.
China Gansu International Corporation for Economic and Technical Cooperation was the contractor responsible for implementation. It signed a construction contract on December 14, 2012 and construction began on June 10, 2013.
Construction ended on August 15, 2014 and the project passed final inspection by China’s Ministry of Commerce on September 9, 2014. Then, the project passed final inspection by Accra municipal government on October 24, 2014. The project was officially completed and handed over to the Ghanaian authorities on November 15, 2014.
This project is an expansion to the original New Century training center funded by the Chinese government in 2000 (captured in #1734).
