Grant Description

The First and Last Mile Improvements Activity aims to enhance connectivity in the Target Area by supporting the planning, design, prioritization, and construction of small-scale infrastructure, such as crosswalks, pedestrian pathways, overpasses, bicycle lanes, and pick-up/drop-off points for private minibus taxis ("matatus").

This activity includes two sub-activities: (i) Connectivity Infrastructure Prioritization and Implementation Planning Sub-Activity, where the Roads Directorate of Nairobi City County Government (NCCG) reviews existing non-motorized transport infrastructure plans, identifies a small number of projects (like sidewalks and crosswalks), and prioritizes them based on their alignment with the connectivity goals of the project.

The projects selected for implementation are those that can be quickly constructed or rehabilitated.

The Directorate will prepare rapid designs, consult with the public, and then proceed with construction or rehabilitation works.

Additionally, the Directorate will work with transport agencies to refine its project selection process, assess small-scale infrastructure in Station Area Connectivity Plans, and develop designs after stakeholder consultations.
