Grant Description
On September 14, 2016, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) issued a $500,000 grant to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) in Lebanon to aid Syrian refugees. This grant was part of a larger $2 million grant commitment. The remaining $1.5 million was set aside for refugees in Jordan (see Record ID#64588).
The Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon signed an aid handover certificate on March 14, 2018. These funds reportedly supported 16,000 Syrian refugees in Lebanon.
The donation consisted of water and canned food, and eligible refugees received an electronic card that allowed them to purchase food at 490 eligible stores in Lebanon.
On April 19, 2018, the Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian signed a document with WFP, which marked the official end of the emergency food aid project.
