In December 2014, the Chinese Government provided humanitarian aid worth RMB 60 million to Iraq to assist internally displaced persons (IDPs) forced to move due to the war with the Islamic State.
Of this amount, aid worth RMB 30 million was provided to the Iraqi federal government on December 11, 2014 (captured by this project), and aid worth RMB 30 million RMB was provided to the Kurdistan Regional Government on December 9, 2014 (captured by linked Record ID#66775). The donated aid consisted of items such as blankets, cotton tents, first aid supplies, and medicine.
In addition to supporting IDPs, the provision of humanitarian assistance was intended to support counter-terrorism efforts in Iraq.
On December 9, 2014, two planes carrying the Chinese humanitarian aid destined for the Kurdistan Region arrived in Erbil, the capital city of the Kurdistan Region.
At the handover ceremony, Tan Banglin, the Chinese Consul General in Erbil, signed a material handover certificate with Thahir Osman, the vice-governor of the Erbil Governorate in the Kurdistan Region.
On December 11, 2014, the charter flight with the humanitarian aid for the Iraqi federal government landed at Baghdad International Airport.
Chinese Ambassador to Iraq, Wang Yong, and the Iraqi Deputy Minister of Immigration and Refugee Affairs Hefaji, among other dignitaries, attended a handover ceremony signed a material handover certificate.
