Grant Description
On March 23, 2017, President Peter M. Christian visited Hainan Island, a tropical island province of China.
Through the new sister-state relationship established, Hainan made a commitment of 50 scholarships, 10 scholarships per year, to be used by students from Yap State of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to study in Hainan.
On August 15, 2017, the first 10 Hainan Provincial Government Scholarships were recognized during a farewell reception held by the Chinese Embassy. Because this is a 5-year commitment, this commitment would end in 2022. It is an umbrella project of all the scholarships.
