On January 18, 2017, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at a United Nations speech that China would be donating 200 million RMB (29.1 million USD) to Syria in humanitarian aid.
The funds were to aid Syrian refugees and displaced persons, as well as meet the needs of several sectors, including electricity, customs, and transport. This project is in the pledge phase.
On 14 May 2017, an economic and technical cooperation agreement (ETCA) was signed to commit 200 million RMB grant funding for humanitarian aid projects.
An exchange of letters was also signed on the same date as the 200 million RMB ETCA, which commits to the provision of 30 million RMB of food aid (see Record ID#72505). This exchange of letters may be linked to the ETCA captured in this project.
Several months earlier, in February 2017, an another ETCA was also signed for a 110 million RMB grant of humanitarian aid (see Record ID#65080).
