In August 2018, the Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge project was presented in the indicative list of 12 flagship projects proposed by the Philippines for Chinese grant financing.

The project involves the construction of a 20-kilometer long-span bridge, 11-kilometer road, and a 4-kilometer causeway to facilitate the Inter-Regional connectivity between Bohol and Leyte.

According to "IFPs by Stage/Milestone: Project Development (20 Projects) as of July 31, 2019", the Pre-F/S Study of the project commenced on March 25, 2019. As of November 2019, the Duterte administration has "shelved," or suspended this project.
