In August 2018, the Cebu-Bohol Link Bridge project was presented in the indicative list of 12 flagship projects proposed by the Philippines for Chinese grant financing. The project is the construction of a 24.5-km bridge that will link Cebu and Bohol.
According to "INFRASTRUCTURE FLAGSHIP PROJECTS AS OF JUNE 13, 2018", the project is for IPIF (Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility) assistance for the conduct of a feasibility study and a detailed engineering design. Contract Negotiation with the winning consultant (Under IPIF) was successfully conducted on January 19, 2018.
The consultant will conduct a Record IDentification and planning (PI&P).
Once the PI&P is completed (target is May 4, 2018), DPWH will then review the list and determine priority of projects and procure new preparation studies to proceed with the FS.
According to "IFPs by Stage/Milestone: Project Development (20 Projects) as of July 31, 2019", the transport link study under the IPIF commenced on April 12, 2019 and will be completed by August 12, 2019.
In October 2019, the Cebul-Bohol Link Bridge project was "shelved" or suspended due to it being among three major infrastructure projects highlighted by Socioeconomic Planning Secretary and concurrent National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General Ernesto Pernia as either “impossible” to build due to technological limitations or “very costly”.
