Grant Description

The purpose of this project is to support a conservation effort in the Maya Golden Landscape of Belize by advancing protected.area management and strengthening local community engagement to reduce illegal logging and unsustainable agricultural.practices.

The project is intended to conserve the regions species diversity and ecosystem services and ensure the integrity of the.forest corridor between the Maya Mountain Massif and the Maya Forrest through mobilization of digital technology for effective.surveillance patrols and increased livelihoods via sustainable agroforestry practices.

Activities include: (1) equipping and training.Yaaxchs ranger team with the technology, knowledge, and gear to swiftly identify and provide enforcement to illegal activity.hotspots in both Bladen Nature Reserve and Maya Mountain North Forest Reserve; (2) strengthening partnerships with national.ministries to foster joint patrols and continued enforcement support; (3) supporting protected area buffer farms in implementing.cacao agroforestry to demonstrate the value of protected areas; and (4) engaging local communities in a family-oriented BioBlitz.event focused on showcasing the importance of Belizes protected areas
