On May 15, 2017, according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the Chinese Embassy in Syria, the Chinese Embassy to Syria agreed to provide a $1 million grant to the International Committee of the Red Cross for humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees. The project was completed and a handover certificate was issued on February 14, 2018.
The funds were earmarked for various projects in Manin (or Ain Manin or منين), which is is a small town in southern Syria about 18 kilometers north of Damascus.
These projects included overhauling the water network, providing food and medical services, and the establishment of a bakery and a food kitchen.
The ultimate goal of the grant was providing clean water, food, temporary shelter, and medical treatment for the internally displaced Syrians and refugees from neighboring countries.
