Aerial surveys conducted since 2000 along SouthAmerica's Atlantic coast have quantified significant declines in shorebird population overthe last 30-years.
Aerial surveys, following well-described methods, will be repeated in northern and northeastern Brazil and along the coasts of French Guiana, Suriname,Guyana and Colombia.
The goal of this project is to contribute data to shorebirdpopulation trend and status assessments and to evaluate effectiveness of shorebirdconservation actions implemented throughout the Atlantic Americas Flyway; the latter is critical to the adaptive management framework underpinning the Atlantic FlywayShorebird Initiative, whose participants are key beneficiaries of the project.
