Grant Description

The purpose of this project is to build on the success and needs identified in the 2014-2015 USFWS-funded project on hunting sustainability in Guyana which to date has resulted in the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment of Guyana establishing a Wildlife Management Steering Committee to direct the application of the project results in national wildlife policy and implementation.

The current project will establish a framework for the regulation of forestry and mining activities to prevent the overharvest of wildlife, raise public awareness of Guyanas legislation on wildlife harvest and trade, build a foundation for incorporating forestry and mining stations into the wildlife reporting system, and increase national capacity of wildlife management units.
