Grant Description

Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund provides $5 million loan for 12 agricultural projects in 2019 According to the news release from the Embassy of China in Myanmar, on July 31, 2019, the launching ceremony of the second batch of agricultural projects in Myanmar under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund was held in Naypyidaw.

The project agreement was signed on January 23, 2019 (see Record ID#68541). China reportedly provided $5 million for this set of projects.

These twelve agricultural projects cover rural development and poverty reduction, fisheries, seed industry, inspection and quarantine, food safety, capacity building, and many other fields will help promote the faster and better development of Myanmar's agriculture.

Based on the description of the project agreement from the Embassy, it is likely that these projects include rural development and poverty reduction, fish product processing, cross-border animal and animal product trade quarantine, rubber cultivation and production, sustainable seed testing network, silkworm research and development, agricultural library system, water quality assessment, ICT development, agricultural and rural data statistics, food safety.

While information on some of the projects is found, the comprehensive list for all the projects has not been found. Since the commitment amount for each project is unknown, no separate project is created. On August 11, 2021, Myanmar has received the fund from China. The first batch of five agricultural projects in Myanmar is captured in Record ID#63881.
