Grant Description

In September 2017, the Chinese Government agreed to a grant for the Construction of Malaria Prevention and Treatment Center in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The total project cost was 6 million RMB, which was fully financed by the Chinese government.

The Shenzhen-Baxin Anti-Malaria Center was completed on August 26, 2018, and began operation in November 2018 as planned. The project was constructed by Zhongtai International.

The center contains five floors: a ground floor for registration, a floor for two laboratories with one polymerase chain reaction (PCR), two floors for offices, and a floor for staff residences.

The building has the capacity to provide services such as malaria diagnosis and treatment, traditional Chinese healthcare services, and microscopy and entomology trainings. The facility is expected to train 300 to 500 doctors a year.

The center is providing free treatment and trainings about malaria, and is a part of a larger attempt to eliminate malaria in PNG. The project was initially pledged in 2006.
