On 6 March, 2018, Charge D’affaires of the Chinese Embassy to Tonga Chen Tie and Hon.
Minister for Meteorology, Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Communication and Climate Change of Tonga Poasi Tei, signed the Handover Certificate of Cash Grant (translated: 中国对汤加现汇援助交接证书) on behalf of respective governments. Earlier, the Kingdom of Tonga was attacked by the severe cyclone Gita on February 12, 2018.
To help Tonga counter the disaster, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga donated 40,000 Pa’anga by remittance for the relief work.
In addition to cash donation, the Chinese Embassy also donated three power generators and a truck for the victims and local villages to rebuild their homeland (#86633).
Furthermore, on Feb 17th, 2018, the Chinese Embassy in Tonga called on and organized Chinese water manufacturers to donate 500 boxes of drinking water to Tongan National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) (#86632) , to ensure the water supply for the Tongan victims of the Tropical Cyclone Gita.
