Grant Description
On 1 November, 2011, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Transport, Works and Natural Disaster and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Tonga H.E.
Wang Donghua, signed the Agreement of the Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga and the Government of the People's Republic of China at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under the agreement, a grant aid from the Chinese government amounting RMB 50,000,000. This grant aid shall be used for projects to be agreed upon both governments.
Minister Samiu Kuita Vaipulu said that Ambassador Tang Fang expressed gratitude to China for its economic assistance. At present, the primary task of Tonga's economic development is to improve transportation and communication conditions.
Details regarding disbursement procedures will be handled by Tonga's Ministry of Finance and National Planning and the China Development Bank.
