Grant Description

When Xi Jinping went to North Korea in 2008 as vice president, the Chinese Government agreed to provide more than 300,000 tons of food to North Korea, according to Park Byung Kwang, director of the center for Northeast Asia at the Seoul-based Institute for National Security Strategy, a think tank affiliated with South Korea’s main spy agency.

However, according to Chinese Government reporting to the World Food Program’s International Food Aid Information System (INTERFAIS), it ultimately provided no food aid deliveries to North Korea in 2008. Chinese food aid deliveries in 2009 are captured via Record ID#63004.
