Grant Description

On August 30, 2018, during the visit of Sierra Leone president to China, the presidents of both countries signed a bilateral agreement for the Chinese Government to provide emergency humanitarian assistance of a batch of rice valued at RMB 50 million.

On May 16, 2019, the handover ceremony for the first batch of the 2018 Humanitarian Emergency Food Assistance to Sierra Leone occurred at a warehouse in Queen Elizabeth II Quay, Freetown. On January 16, 2020, the Minister of MBSSE Dr.

David Sengeh in the midst of eight other govt Minister's, development partners & civil society orgs. witnessed a symbolic handing of another batch of about 27,000 bags of rice from China with 30,000 promised to arrive in February. The donated rice was for school children in Sierra Leone.

Controversy occurred when the rice intended for the school children was misappropriated and sold by officials from Sierra Leone's Education Ministry.
