Grant Description

In April 2016, the State Government of Sokoto signed a memorandum of understanding with the Henan Province government to establish an agricultural demonstration area (农业示范区) to promote development of agriculture in Sokoto.

The project includes a joint expert team to research on climate, soil, crop cultivation techniques and quarantine protection; it also aims to expand the use of machinery.

The Chinese Government’s Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office (ECCO) has indicated that this project is one of the 100 agricultural projects announced by President Xi at the South-South Cooperation Conference in September 2015.

This project in the State of Sokoto should not be confused with agricultural demonstration centers in other Northern/Northwestern states, such as the one in project #52630.
