Grant Description
Chinese Government pledges preferential buyer’s credit for Riam Kiwa Dam Project in Indonesia. In 2016, China reportedly signaled interest in issuing a loan for the construction of the Riam Kiwa Dam Project.
On May 7, 2018, the China International Development Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing in Indonesia signed an Exchange of Letter on the Design review for the Riam Kiwa Dam Project (or 里阿克瓦水坝工程) in South Kalimantan, Indonesia.
According to Indonesia's List of Planned Priority External Loans 2019, the project will be mostly funded by a $190 million loan from China, although a specific funding agency was not specified. However, AidData has not identified that China Eximbank ever issued a loan for this project. There have not been any updates regarding financial details for the project and it has not begun implementation.
The dam was planned to irrigate a planned 1.791 hectares and generate 0.92 MW of electricity. It will accommodate 127 cubic meters of water and supply water to 5000 hectares of paddy field.

According to 'Indonesia and China sign agreements for infrastructure development' and '中国将供贷4.5万亿盾 用于印尼建造四座多功能水坝', the Chinese government expressed interest in providing IDR 4.5 trillion for 4 dam projects (Pelosika Dam, Rokan Kiri Dam, Jenelata Dam, and Riam Kiwa Dam). It was reported in 2016 that China intended to fund $4 billion in assistance to Indonesia through ASEAN in the form of preferential buyer's credit for 11 development projects ('China to Finance 9 Infrastructure Projects'). However, AidData has not identified that a loan was ever issued for these projects.
