Grant Description

The purpose of this project is to support protected area management in Gabon by developing an integrated and central information system.

This project is intended to conserve forest elephants, gorillas, and other species by improving the compilation, management, and utilization of information on forestry and human pressures around protected areas.

Specific activities include: (1) develop a system for managing and sharing information on protected areas (SIAP, or systeme dinformation sur les aires protges); (2) establish standardized management protocols for information collection and analyses; (3) train Gabon National Park staff and other relevant partners on the utilization of the protected area information system; and (4) based on information analyses, develop value-added products for decision-making by the Gabon National Park staff.
