Grant Description

On August 23, 2019, the Chinese Government and the Government of South Sudan, signed an exchange of letters, which committed an unspecified amount of grant funding for the Borehole Drilling And Water Supply Project.

The purpose of the project is to construct 47 wells in Central Equatoria State and Lakes State, including 32 normal wells and 15 hand pumps.

China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation (CJIC) is the contractor responsible for project implementation. Feasibility studies for the project were held as early as January 2018.

Then, on March 3, 2023, China's Ambassador to South Sudan, MA Qiang, and South Sudan's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Pal Mai Deng, signed the project implementation agreement.

CJIC won the China-Aid Well Drilling & Water Supply Project in South Sudan Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
