In August 2006, the Egyptian Desert Research Center and the Science and Technology Center of Ningxia Autonomous Region signed a Science and Technology Cooperation Agreement (中国宁夏回族自治区科学技术厅、埃及国家沙漠研究中心科技合作协议). The agreement was signed during a visit to Ningxia, China, by Dr.
Ismail Abdel Galil Hussein, Chairman of the Desert Research Center of Egypt, and Prof. Mohamed Abbas Mabrouk, Vice Chairman.
The agreement was designed to facilitate Chinese-Egyptian cooperation on the development of bio-fertilizer production technology and efforts to control desertification.
It called for an exchange of experts, plans, and information, as well as the joint management and planning of desertification control programs and demonstration areas.
Then, on March 9, 2014, the Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, Song Aiguo, and Egyptian Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Dr.
Ashraf Al Araby, signed an exchange of letters regarding a feasibility study for the establishment of a China-Africa Desertification Control Demonstration and Training Center Project in Egypt (援埃中非荒漠化防治示范和培训中心项目可行性考察任务政府换文).
Since the signature of the agreement, Egypt has sent students and experts to the Ningxia Autonomous Region in China to participate in various desertification courses (captured in Record ID#60679).
The Chinese project title is 埃中非荒漠化防治示范和培训中心项目.
