On June 6, 2018, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar Yang Xiaorong, and Madagascar's Minister of Public Health, Lalatiana Andriamanarivo, in which the Chinese Government agreed to a donation of $250,000 USD in medical equipment to the Malagasy Ministry of Public Health.
The equipment was handed over on the same day.
This donation was part of the 2 week long "Action Brilliant" campaign that began in Antananarivo on May 31st, 2018 to offer free cataract treatment in the country. The equipment will be left in the Joseph Ravoahangy Andrianavalona Hospital. The Action Brilliant campaign may also be known as Bright Journey Project or Brightness Action campaign.
As part of the program, 11 ophthalmic experts from China were sent to the capital in 2017 (see linked Record ID#60024).
