BRITISH COLUMBIA PACIFIC COASTAL & CANADIAN WETLANDS CONSERVATION

The 2017-2 addition to this project describes the next phase in DUCs multi-year commitment to deliver science-based habitat conservation projects to achieve NAWMP goals in the BC-PBHJV and the CIJV.

This project will acquire 10 upland acres in fee, 200 acres (70 wetland and 130 upland) in Crown Land Designation, and 50 acres (10 wetland and 40 upland) through conservation agreements (10-year agreements minimum).

Enhancement activities will impact 335 acres (220 wetland and 115 upland) by restoring or enhancing wetland and estuarine hydrology or by reversing the impacts of incompatible agriculture.

Previously secured habitats across both JVs will be managed to maintain quality habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife: these activities will affect 419,910 acres (164,195 wetland and 255,715 upland). Stewardship activities will influence 3,000 acres (1,000 wetland and 2,000 upland).

Examples of stewardship activities include: eradicating invasive plant species and encouraging winter cover crops and other cropping activities to provide food sources for waterfowl.
