Grant Description

Between July 2011 and mid-2012, a severe drought affected the entire East African region causing severe food shortages in countries like Djibouti.

On July 27, 2011, the Chinese Government announced it would provide 90 million yuan in food aid to drought-affected countries in Africa, including 10 million yuan to Djibouti, 30 million yuan to Kenya (see Record ID#73729), and 50 million yuan to Ethiopia (see Record ID#1455).

On August 4 and 7, 2011, Chinese and Djiboutian government officials signed an exchange of letters for emergency food assistance worth 10 million RMB. The assistance was officially handed over to the Djibouti side on October 20, 2011.
