In June 2017 during a visit by Chinese State Councilor Wang Yong, Chinese and Zambian government officials signed two economic and technical cooperation agreements (ETCA) worth a total of 450 million RMB.
One of the ETCAs provided 250 million RMB for two different projects: (1) the construction of milling plants in Monze, Mpika and Lusaka (Record ID#52463) and (2) construction of an International Conference Center to host the 2022 African Union Summit (Record ID#57297). The financial breakdown is unknown.
It is unclear whether this was a grant or interest-free loan.
The second 200 million RMB ETCA for upgrading Levy Mwanawasa Hospital into a University Teaching Hospital is captured in Record ID#40727.
President Lungu Applauds the Excellent and Friendly Historical Relations Between Zambia and China Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
