On April 10, 2019, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Hua Ning and Undersecretary of South Sudan's Foreign Ministry Baak Valentino Wol signed an exchange of letters to conduct a feasibility study the second phase of the expansion and modernization of South Sudan's biggest public health facility, the Juba Teaching Hospital.
The feasibility study was carried out on August 14, 2019.
Then, on March 20, 2021, the Chinese Government and the Government of South Sudan signed a grant agreement for Phase 2 of the Juba Teaching Hospital Renovation and Expansion Project.
The Phase 2 project, with a total site area of about 2.28 hectares and a total floor area of about 16,000 square meters, includes six functional divisions: specialist outpatient division, medical technology division, inpatient division, infectious disease division, administration division and logistics support division.
On August 25, 2020, the Chinese Government and the Government of South Sudan officially inaugurated a cancer screening facility Juba Teaching Hospital.
Then, between March 2022 and April 2022, MOFCOM (the project financier) dispatched a group of experts to South Sudan to inspect the progress begin made through Phase 2 of the Juba Teaching Hospital Renovation and Expansion Project.
Then, on July 6, 2022, the Chinese Government and the Government of South Sudan signed a project implementation agreement for Phase 2 of the Juba Teaching Hospital Renovation and Expansion Project.
