Grant Description
Chinese government signs Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with Malawi government On June 24, 2019, Ambassador Liu Hongyang signed the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) on behalf of the Chinese Government with the new Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development of Malawi, Joseph Mwanamweka.
Under the agreement, a grant worth US$30 million will be provided to Malawi. The signing ceremony took place in Lilongwe.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Liu Hongyang emphasized that bilateral relations will be further deepened, bilateral cooperation will be strengthened, and the initiatives of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation will be implemented together with Malawi, and the achievements of cooperation will be shared with the people of Malawi.
In late September, it is reported that US$3 million from this agreement was released to facilitate expansion and enhancement of the use of modern farming and agriculture technologies in or to improve production and productivity among smallholder farmers in Malawi (captured in Record ID#69817).
