On January 3, 2017, China Geo-Engineering Corporation and the Central African Republic signed two draft agreements for the exploitation of cement and of an iron foundry in the Central African Republic.
It is unclear whether final agreements for this project were signed and/or if any official Chinese equity or debt was used to carry out the project (if it was implemented), so the project's status has been marked as only a pledge.
According to one of the agreements, a feasibility study for the exploitation of the deposits will be carried out beforehand for six months to arrive at the start of the exploitation.
The limestone deposit in the Bombassa and Ndimba villages, located on the banks of the Oubangui, near Bangui, will be used for the production of cement. While the foundry in the village of Bogouin northwest of the capital will be used for the production of iron.
In the draft contract, provision is made for the transfer of technology and know-how from the Chinese side to the Central African side.
South-South Cooperation and Tripartite Partnership in the Central African Republic (CAR) Loan applications and disbursements are still being received and processed as the projects continue to evolve. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are in place to ensure project continuity.
