Grant Description
In January 2018, the Chinese Government and the Government of Central African Republic (CAR) signed an agreement, which cancelled RMB 198.35 million (or approximately 17 billion CFA francs) of the Government of CAR’s outstanding debt obligations. This cancellation was part of a greater reorientation of Chinese public investment policy in Africa in 2015.
As a result of this change, the CAR benefited from the cancellation of some of its debt.
These obligations resulted from five interest-free loans that the Government of CAR previously contracted between 2001 and 2005 and that matured on or before December 31, 2015.
