China signs education plan providing full scholarships for 35 Salvadorian students to pursue bachelors and masters degrees in China (Linked to Record ID#55498)

On November 1st 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of El Salvador and Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China signed an education plan referred to as "Education Cooperation Plan 2018-2023" that would offer 25 and 10 undergrad and graduate full scholarships, respectively, for 35 Salvadorian students to study in several different universities in China annually until 2023.

This includes airfare, tuition fees, housing, food and stipends for each student. In addition to that, the students will absorb Chinese culture as well as learn the language. A pdf of the signed plan was found on El Salvador's Transparency Portal website.

This project was one of the 13 memoranda of understanding that China and El Salvador signed on November 1st, 2018 (Record ID#55498). The first batch of 35 Chinese government scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year are captured in Record ID#89298.

Although not captured under this agreement, after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, China also granted scholarships to 35 students who previously received scholarships to study Taiwan, captured in Record ID#89322.
