Grant Description
On December 23, 2016, a computer-assembly factory was inaugurated on the outskirts of Havana.
The facility, owned by the Industrial Company for Information, Technology, Communications, and Electronics (GEDEME), was to produce sixth-generation laptops and tablets in 8-inch and 10-inch models, utilizing Chinese components and technologies.
Haier provided the technology and raw materials for the plant while the Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas (UCI) of Havana provided Nova and NovaDroid operating systems.
The devices were first intended for state centers and government agencies, with subsequent distribution planned for commercial markets.
Moreover, the plant was designed with an annual production capacity of 120,000 units, with a daily production capability of 500 units. The monetary value of the technology and raw materials provided by Haier were not specified.
